FIGHTING THE EPIDEMICS(1)

1.Dialogues:

Part one

(David Wang is going through an epidemic check for Covid-19 at a community check point in Suzhou Industrial Park.)

C: Good morning. We need to have a health check on you for the Coronavirus epidemic according to the city rule, can you show        your personal ID first?

D: Yes sir, here you are.

C: Where did you come from today?

D: I came from my hometown Wenzhou today, just finished my Spring Festival holiday and going back tomy work place in Suzhou. Any problem with that?

C: Yes, quite a big problem. Wenzhou as well as some other cities are listed as the secondary worst-hit epidemic cities in China now. People travel from these areas are subject to go through a special quarantine check before entering the community.

D: What shall I do then?

C: Let's take your body temperature first.Ok, it's 36.8 degree Celsius, seems normal.

D: I know I'm ok. What else?

C: Do you have any symptoms like cough, breath with difficulties or fever?

D: No, not at all.

C: Did you have any history of contacting with confirmed or suspected Coronavirus patients in the past fourteen days?

D: Not either.

J: That's fine. Please fill out thisform.

(After David finished filling out theform.)

C: You can go now. But you still need to stay at home for fourteen days as a self-quarantine demmand. During this period of time you are not allowed to go outside nor to contact anybody else.

D: Oh, that's really going to be a hard time for me. What about if I need to buy food or some daily supply?

W: You may do some online shopping, when the delivery guy comes our community workers can help receive and take them to your home.

J: That's fantastic. What to make the payment?

W: Of course, it will be at your own cost. Now you may follow our team worker to go home, good luck!

J: Thanks a million. Hope to see yousoon.

Part two

(William is having an audio-chat about the Epidemic situation with his American friend John in New York.)

W: Hi John, how is everything going with the Covid-19 Pandemic in your city now?

J: According to CDC latest report, the total confirmed cases in the US today has topped eighty thousand and the deaths toll has passed one thousand, and half of these number happened in New York.

W: US has now surpassed Italy to become the highest Covid-19 infected country in the world.

J: You are right, things here are really getting worse and worse, just like Hubei and Wuhan in China two months ago. Since the President Trump declared National Emergency for it, people started worry and panic, they rushed to stores to buy things for preparation.

W: I saw on photos that most store shelfs of foods and daily suppliers are empty now. Even toilet papers are out of sales.

J: That's true. The governor of New York State also decleared lockdown for the whole State to avoid further transmission of the virus. People are ordered to stay at home and not to go outside.

W: That's really something serious. It seems people there have realized the denger now and are taking the same measures as what we did when the Coronavirus outbreak started in China.

J: Exactly, now all businesses, shops, restaurants and bars are shut down. Schools are closed. Company employees are working from home on computers, teachers and students are staying home for online classes.

W: But some WeChat video show that young men and young women are still wandering or gathering in restaurants, streets and parks, even playing around on beaches for fun, is it true?

J: Yes, some young people tend to be neglecting the risks of virus spreading, and they are over confident that they are strong enough to resist the virus and not to be infected.

W: There is an old saying in China: “Do something protective before the disaster comes”, we’d better be more cautious during this special time. Then what about the elderly and homeless people?.

J: Their conditions are not good now. Since the city lacks protective supply and medical facilities and also doesn’t have enough medical workers, many of these people have to stay along without treatment on time even after got infected.

W: Then what happen if their sickness are getting severe?.

J: Nothing they can do but wait for death.

W: That’s really sad.

3. Chinese Version
